What is a Jacketed Reactor?
A reactor is a vessel that contains a chemical reaction, which opens them up for a variety of applications in the chemical processing field. It’s used as a tool for many different processes related to extraction, winterization, distillation, and post-processing. A reactor can come in different sizes, shapes, and forms. It can even come in different materials including stainless steel or glass.
In terms of cannabinoid processing, the most common use for a reactor is large-scale winterization. Here, a single or double jacketed reactor is ideal. This is because it allows you to circulate fluid around the exterior or interior jacket, chilling the mixture inside. As the mixture becomes colder, the fats and waxes within it begin to coagulate and fall out of the solution. Reactors can also be used for homogenizing mixtures or as stand-alone extraction vessels.
Glass reactors are only able to handle negative pressure which, in turn, limits their usability. Our 50-Liter Stainless Steel Jacketed Reactor is designed for usage with positive pressure. Additionally, the vessel jacket can circulate chilling fluid or act as vacuum insulation.
